Overland's Mayoral Election Update
I've been running around the polls checking numbers and making sure everyone has enough water and ice. Everyone has been trying to look out for each other which is great as heat stroke is not partisan. So far all is well though the turnout is a bit slow. As of 1:00PM the rough count of votes cast was about 1568. That's a bit slower than usual for Overland but people maybe waiting for the sun to go down to vote. There were 264 absentee ballots cast which brings that number over 1800 votes for this election so far.
Turn out is important, not only for representation of all the residents but also for the image of Overland, so if you have yet to vote, get out and do it now. If you need transportation contact the candidates (Candidate contact information can be found here), don't neglect your right and responsibility today.

Turn Out Update:
The rough total votes cast for the polling places as of 3:30PM was 1938 (2202 with the 264 absentee ballots cast).
That number will go up once people start getting out of work.
That maybe true Rick. Someone reminded me that street crews, roofers and most people who work outside all day generally start a lot earlier in the morning this time of year.
So you figure they get off at 2:00PM or so, go home, get cleaned up and cooled down and then comes the big decision. Do you goto the fridge for a beer, or get in the car and vote.
I know how you folks feel, but please take your right and responsibility to vote seriously and get out to the polls, that beer will be waiting for ya when you get back. :-)
If you were planning to attend the Overland Neighborhood Watch picnic tonight please be advised that they moved the Picnic from the park to The Wild Acres Gym (2500 Ashby due to the excessive heat.
Latest Update on the turn out:
As of 5:30PM - 6:00 PM the approximate number of votes cast was 2551 at the polls making it 2815 with the absentee ballots.
If you have not voted yet you only have an hour left to do so. Please get out to the polls so we can break 3000 votes and be the envy of all the communities around us once again.
Last Turnout update:
At between 6:30PM and 7:00PM Poll closing we had approximately 3001 votes cast at all the polls total. With the absentee votes included.
The big turnout winner of the day was Wyland School with 565 votes cast there alone.
Now we just have to wait and see what the results are. BTW, anyone need a bottle of water I have a few left. :-)
