Last weeks Poll
Last week's poll ask readers if the Overland Examiner should contact the Mayor to take her up on her offer to link to any Overland specific web site.
As I've said before, I don't think this is a good idea. In my view, the City of Overland's official web site should be focused on promoting Overland. Politics, regardless of how they are handled, simply don't belong there. This includes the link to the Mayor's personal web site in my opinion.
However, being asked to do this repeatedly in email as well as in person lead me to create that poll. In all honestly, if it had gone a different way I probably would have stuck to my guns and not tried to get an Overland Examiner link at the City of Overland home page.
I am happy to announce that our audience get's it! As you can see for the results here the majority of our readers didn't think this is a good idea either.
Now, when someone asks me about trying to call the Mayor on her statement about adding any links to the City homepage I can direct them to the poll results and point out that the readers here would prefer we didn't.
Thanks folks for giving me a bit more ammunition on this one!

Thank you again Sailor, for taking a second look, and also listening to that voice of reasoning that you seem to have so well instilled within you.
It is the mayors own website that makes us painfully aware of the harm that can be done by linking a source of misinformation and outright lies, slander and all manner of deception as if it had any connection to the official body of information about our city.
Beginning with the mayors original false claim to have been a nurse and to have a degree from Maryville U. She is documented as having admitted to a state investigator that both statements are lies and she was ordered by the state to "cease and desist from practicing or representing yourself as a Registered Nurse"
Like most laws she has broken, the mayor has ignored this order and continues to insist that she is and has been a nurse! She continued to use the false claims for political gain as evidenced by her campaign literature (mail fraud again) and also by her website.
This same audacity is evidenced by
slanderous statements, false accusations, edited videotapes and the public revelation of a councilmans social security number.
How could we possibly link the city website to further potential deception, abuse and lawbreaking misinformation?
I understand your annoyance with the Mayor's personal web site. Though I share it, I don't begrudge her the right to have a site or post whatever she wishes on it (though if it rises to the level of Libel, she might end up with some more legal issues). Though I have a problem with it being linked to the City's web site, I expect we'll that problem addressed shortly after April 3rd.
On another note. It seems that one of the Mayor's disciples has chosen to air some of my marginally dirty laundry. Well, I can't argue with him. I have yet to pay our 2006 property taxes. We are waiting for our federal tax refund to do that, and yes, I had frequently been late paying the taxes in the past. It's easy to do when there is no mortgage company paying them for you. If I need to be chained and flogged for this "crime" so be it.
What I find most interesting is the Pot calling the Kettle Black here. Perhaps this person should consider taking care of their own tax issues, (in this case personal property ones), before going on a crusade against others who have committed the same offense. It's hard to grasp just how self-righteous someone has to be to attack others for doing something they are guilt of annually.
I'm curious, is there anything in the City's employee handbook that references treating a resident like this?
Hi there, sorry you were the brunt of their bs. Is there anything that can be done with Knode's website. He has his political campaign website listed under candidates. I think that is a big no no. It is okay to list a candidates name it is in no way appropriate to have a current councilman have a campaign website on the city's. There is a difference between Ann's and his. Ann isn't running for office he is. Can somebody do the research necessary and get this brought to attention. Mike O'Connell, the Political Ethics Board whatever it takes. Norm Parish, Suburban Journal please call and complain this is not right to use taxpayers money for a political candidate.
Though I have similar problems with some of the items linked to Councilman Knode's web site as I do with Mayor Purzner's personal site I don't believe there is anything wrong with it legally (assuming there are no libel or copyright issues of course).
I believe it was Councilman Knode who suggested that they add a list of candidates to the City web site several Council meetings ago. If memory serves Councilman Knode also asked that Candidate web sites be listed. So long as this opportunity is equally available to all candidates, I imagine it's OK. Considering the majority of sites currently listed there it might be in bad taste, but otherwise I think it's fine.
That said, I like the fact that people can visit Councilman Knode's web site. The items linked to his site do an excellent job of letting the voters know what he is really all about.
